2020
basin, plexiglass, stage blood, fluorescent light
02/02/2020 was made on the day of its namesake. At the time of its conception, the work served as an exaggerated projection, criticizing and mocking sensationalist notions about a year whose date felt straight out of a science fiction novel. The next month, something happened. The world was thrown into crisis and this object took on strange new meaning. Looking back, it feels callous and brash; yet, it holds my interest as a piece that changed so much as context shifted around it. Unsure what to do with it, almost superstitious about moving it, the work sits in a corner of the studio growing mold and getting old.
